A

Anand, Kantana
Kanta Anand was born in the Punjab region of India. She was raised in a family where cooking was always a prized art. Majoring in home economics, with cooking one of her best subjects, Kanta was awarded her Teachers' Training Certificate from the Punjab Education Board. She brings to her classes the experience of teaching Northern Indian cooking for more than thirty years. Kanta's specialty is preparing tasty, low fat, healthy meals.
 
Atef, Ahmed
Ahmed Atef is a graduate of Punjab Engineering College (Electrical & Electronic Communication) of Punjab University, India. He also holds a Master Degree in education  from George Mason University, Virginia. As an educator, Mr. Atef has a variety of working experiences in Fairfax County Public Schools and Arlington Adult Education Center- Arlington Public Schools systems. He has also worked as a network and database administrator in a number of private firms and organizations in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Mr. Atef joined Arlington Adult Education Center on September 2002.

Bufill, José
Dr. José Bufill holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from George Washington University. He has taught law at Catholic University, Cuba, and Spanish and Latin American Literature at Niagara University, New York, and George Mason University, Virginia. He has been teaching Spanish for Arlington Adult Education since 1995.

Caddell, Judith, MA, CWC 
Judith has spent 30+ years in the field of health education and counseling in the U.S., Europe and Asia. She is a Lifestyle Counselor and Certified Wellness Consultant with the Wellness Forum.  Ms. Caddell’s mission is to empower you with information to make lifestyle choices that will improve your health, longevity and quality of life. As a health counselor and teacher she provides a practical approach to health challenges and assists her clients and students in making changes in their daily activity, nutrition and weight. A seminar speaker and trainer, Ms. Caddell has presented programs to many government agencies, organizations, business and civic groups. After recovering from her own health crises, her lifes work has been dedicated to helping others reach their health, and fitness goals. Mantra "Each day presents another opportunity to practice prevention and healthy living."

Calvert, Donald
Don Calvert has been active at the onset of the PC introduction in the early 80s and remains abreast of an ever-changing computer technology. He has been particularly noted for his ability to communicate complex computer concepts in a clear and simplified matter and for giving individual attention to his students. Don is business manager for a medical information service firm.
 
Carothers, JoAnn
JoAnn Carothers has a Master's degree in Library Science and completed a course in genealogy offered by the National Geographical Society. She has been doing genealogy for over 20 years and taught genealogy over 9 years.
 
Classen, Peter
Peter Classen has been restoring furniture for the past 20 years and teaching restoration and refinishing techniques for the past 15 years. He is also a collector and specialist in the restoration of 19th century applied arts. Most of all, he is an avid organizer of antique collecting and furniture refinishing clubs, and especially interested in seeing the formation of such clubs in Arlington.
 
Cocozza, Heather
Heather Cocozza is a Professional Organizer who organizes and designs tailored home and office solutions. She is on the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO)-WDC Board of Directors and is the owner of Cocozza Organizing & Design, LLC.  Prior to her organizing career, Heather Cocozza worked 13 years at IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Project Manager and at times traveled extensively. She has a B.S.B.A. from The American University in Business Management Information Systems, and has been an Arlington resident for 15 years.
 
Corcoran, Cecily
Cecily Corcoran is an active artist and art instructor in the Arlington community. Trained as a representational artist, Cecily went to Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Lyme Academy of the Fine Arts, and Bratislava Academy of the Fine Arts. Presently, she is exhibiting her artwork in galleries and local spaces within the Metropolitan area.

Daly, Dave
Dave Daly has been the building trades instructor for Alexandria City Schools since 1975. He received his BS in Education and a Master's in Vocational Education. Dave worked as a home improvement contractor in Chicago and Northern Virginia from 1971-1979.
 
de León, Mario

Mario H. de León teaches Spanish grammar, Latin American literature, social studies, and ESL for Arlington County.     He attended the University of Virginia, has an Associates Degree from Northern Virginia Community College and is a former international civil servant with the OAS and former minister counselor, Embassy of Guatemala to the White House. Mario also is a journalist for Los Tiempos USA Newspaper of Virginia.

 
Drumheller, Michelle
Michelle Drumheller has taught students for over six years how to use many different computer based programs including Microsoft Office, AdobePhotoShop (CS2 and Elements), photo restoration, scanning techniques, the Internet, Internet job searching, and Web design. She also teaches desktop publishing, digital camera, and basic computer. She has worked as a graphic designer and as managing editor for National Defense Magazine and has written and edited articles for publication, press releases, and taken photos for magazine publication, and Army
public affairs. She is published in National Defense Magazine, Logistician Magazine, the Herald Post, the Stars and Stripes, and Army public affairs publications, and also has written and designed newsletters, logo, brochures, marketing material, Web sites, a magazine, static displays, and training material.
 
Duffet, Robert
Robert J. Duffet is an attorney for Baskin, Jackson & Hansbarger and represents many landlords and property mangers throughout Northern Virginia. Rob is the editor of The Virginia Landlord and producer of Residential Landlord Rights & Responsibilities in Virginia. Rob is a Commissioner on the City of Falls Church Housing Commission and is a landlord himself.
 
Dunne, Gene
Gene Dunne has been teaching GED in Arlington for over four years. He teaches ESOL/HILT English and ESOL/HILT Life Science at the Arlington Career Center, where he has taught standard high school English and Auto Body Repair. His BA is from Hobart College and has studied Earth Science at NVCC and Marymount, and Education at UVA and GMU. He sings opera, plays drums, guitar, and mandolin. He is an avid backpacker and canoeist.

Ms. Girelle is a professional graphic designer, Multimedia Communication and Design, BIS. She has worked and taught in the design/production fields of Graphics/Digital Media & Photography for 7 years. Ms. Girelle thrives on innovation, and believes in life-long learning and service to the community.
 
Glassman, Lynne
Lynne Glassman has over twenty year's experience and expertise in the world of fashion. In additional to advanced certification in both image and color analysis, Lynne has applied her doctoral degree in education to teaching women and men to develop their best personal styles. As an image consultant, Lynne does personal shopping, color analysis, makeovers, silhouette analysis, face shape analysis and closet surgery.
 
Goodwin, Leslie C.
Leslie Goodwin has more than 12 years experience in desktop publishing using a Macintosh computer. She spent eight years in the Marketing Department of a national association. Recently she has been working freelance as a desktop publisher producing flyers, brochures, newsletters, journals, catalogs, and an annual 500 page university course catalog. Leslie has a BS in Digital Video Communications from GMU. She attended Oxford University for one term through a GMU honors program.
 
Goulla, Douglas
Douglas Goulla started his career as an Emergency Medical Technician Ambulance/Firefighter in 1977. He was then hired as a Cardiac Technician for the Alexandria City Fire Department in 1983. Doug has been formally teaching Emergency Medical courses for over 20 years. He is currently President of Lifesavers Training Centers, Inc. and is a full-time EMT-B teacher at the Arlington Career Center.
 
Gutnick, Tom
Tom Gutnick is the owner of Sunny Banana IT Consulting, with decades of experience in information security, enterprise architecture, web-site design, and more. His clients have ranged from Fortune 500 corporations to small businesses and non-profit organizations. He has taught everything from junior high science as a Peace Corps volunteer to high-level computer seminars for corporate audiences. In addition to personal technology classes for Arlington Adult Education, he teaches information systems classes at Northern Virginia Community College.

Haines, Jerry
Jerry Haines taught radio and television writing at a small college in Pittsburgh for six years before beginning the practice of law in 1981. He has been a travel writer since 1996 and has written over 300 different articles and reviews that have been published in several media outlets, including the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Los Angeles Times, Newark Star-Ledger, and St. Petersburg Times. He is a contributor to the website TravelBeat.net, for which he writes CasualEats, sketches of diners and other informal eateries located in interesting destinations. He has been with Arlington Adult Education since 2000.
 
Hammon, Michelle
Michelle is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America 88'.  After graduation she worked and studied in Germany for 3 years majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management and working as Demi-Chef Garde Manger for the Hotel Kempinski in Frankfurt. Michelle continued to work in the culinary field for Stouffer's, Marriott, and Westin hotels. Michelle now works privately for an individual as well free lancing in the special events in washington dc and teaching here in Arlington county adult education.
 
Hodanic, Nancianne
After years of being a prolific online dater, Nancianne realized that the same strategies that product marketers use to attract new customers could be applied to marketing an online personal ad. With that knowledge, she formed TargetLove.com, a company dedicated to writing effective online dating profiles and overall online dating education. She has been featured numerous times by the Washington Post.
 
Holmes, Janice
Janice Holmes has over 15 years of experience in the beauty business. Janice's background as an educator (holds an M.S. in Secondary Administration)and fashion design and beauty consultant ensure her success in assisting women in looking and feeling their best. Janice provides make-up services as a Licensed Esthetician and Make-Up Artist for weddings and other special occasions. As an Independent Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics, she provides beauty and color consultation and gift services.

Les Jackson is a nationally syndicated automotive writer who contributes to a number of publications including Car & Driver, Modern Maturity, Washington Times, Chicago Tribune, and AutoWeek. He is co-host of Talk America Radio's All About Cars show and is a hands-on restorer of classic automobiles. Les' educational background is in physics and engineering.
 
Jacobsen, Dottie
Dottie Jacobsen, whose love for gardening and herbs started at home in her early childhood, brings to her classes hands-on experience working for the last 14 years for a local greenhouse. Dottie consults on herb growing, landscape design, and has given numerous lectures at various garden clubs in the Washington area on growing and using herbs, as well as other topics related to urban gardening.
 
Jaeger, Steve
Steve Jaeger is a graduate of the Culinary Institue of America in Hyde Park, NY. His career spans four decades nearly all of it in the DC area. He was twice chosen as one of twelve chefs in Virginia to participate in the Governor's Seafood Tasting in Richmond.

Brock Jolly graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Government and Foreign Affairs. After graduation, Brock joined John Hancock as a Representative of The Signator Financial Network. He specialized for one year in long-term care and retirement planning before coming to Capitol Financial Partners in 2001. He is an experienced financial representative, specializing in retirement planning, investments, and disability protection. Joy, Kim
Kim has been a stained glass artist and teacher since 1982. Her works are in private and public collections worldwide. As a bead artist, Kim has been working since 2001. Her jewelry pieces can also be found worldwide. Most of her pieces are in the traditional style and starting to branch out to incorporate materials not usually found in the mediums.  Relating to stained glass she has been taught by local artists in New Mexico and for beadwork she has received instruction from PJ Solomanson of Kailua, HI.   She hopes that her work will inspire and encourage others in their artistic endeavors.  Kim is a member of Ellipse in Arlington, VA. She belongs to National Capital Art Glass Guild, PMC Guild and Northern Virginia Bead Society. Her work can be found at Ellipse, Kawamura Arts & Crafts Center Ft. Pete Jung is the President of Hinson & Jung, LLC Home Inspections and Services. His company does Home Inspections in VA, Washington, DC and MD. He has been involved in various aspects of the building construction industry for over thirty years. He worked as a plumber's helper, held a Master Plumber's license and served on committee's overlooking plumbing codes in the state of New York. In addition, he was on the Board of Directors and President of the New York State Plumbing and Heating Wholesalers for many years.

She is a foodie with a sophisticated palette.  She is currently in pre-production for a cooking show, which will be aired locally.
 

Film and Video Ms. Krishna is a filmmaker and an MFA Candidate in Film and Electronic Media at American University.  She produced, directed, shot, and edited many short films, music videos, and art installations.  She is currently directing a Spec Television Pilot set in DC.

Lauterbach, Marie-Paule
Born and raised in France, Marie-Paule Lauterbach received her Master's Degree in American Studies and her Teacher's Certificate at the University of Burgundy. Following her husband overseas on many Foreign Service assignments, mostly in Africa, she had the opportunity to teach both French and English at various levels. She has an avid interest in learning foreign languages and enjoys helping her students master the intricacies of the French language and culture.
 
LaValle, Manuel
Juan Manuel LaValle is an international singer, composer and interpreter who was born in Veracruz, Mexico. He studied music at the National Institute of Fine Arts and the University of Morelos. He has been singing, composing and interpreting Latin American Music and Poetry for the last twenty years. He has been a music teacher of children young people and adults for approximately 15 years. In his performances he sings his own compositions and the poetry and songs of many other famous Spanish poets, singers and composers. One of his goals is to promote an appreciation of various countries and cultures, through music.

Mack, Sheila M.
Sheila Mack holds a BA in Secondary Education from Syracuse University, an MA from Central Michigan in Business Administration and an MA from University of Alabama in Educational Administration. She began her teaching career at Langley High School in McLean, Virginia. Sheila has been involved in education in four states in the U.S. and seven overseas countries. Sheila speaks Spanish and Portuguese. In addition, she has served as a VISTA Volunteer with the Navajo Indians.
 
Malagisi, Christopher
Christopher Malagisi is currently the Director of Political Training at The Leadership Institute. He is responsible for training and mobilizing conservative leaders and activists across the country.
 
Malagisi was previously the Regional Political Director for The Republican Party of Virginia, serving as the Northern Virginia Field Director for the high-profile US Senate re-election campaign for Senator George Allen (R-VA). He also worked for the International Republican Institute as the Middle East & North Africa Department Program Assistant and had traveled to Afghanistan to assist in implementing various democracy programs. He also worked on the Bush-Cheney 2004 presidential re-election effort as the Ohio Youth Director for the College Republican National Committee, where his team was awarded the 2004 Best National State Team in the country. Malagisi has also worked and interned with the House Republican Conference congressional leadership committee, The White House VP Office of Legislative Affairs, and Congressman Tom Reynolds (R-NY) - former NRCC Chairman.

Mayberry, Richard
Richard Mayberry is a regular speaker throughout metropolitan D.C. at educational workshops on estate planning, estate administration, eldercare and Medicaid planning. Dick has presented to county sponsored adult education courses and federal government agencies on the importance of putting in place an estate plan to avoid probate and to plan ahead for long term care for ill family members. Dick has also taught financial advisors, CPAs, and other lawyers on the technical aspects in various forums. In his law practice, Dick assists families with wills, living trusts, powers of attorney, probate, and how to tackle long term care, nursing home challenges, and Medicaid qualification. Dick is commited to our community through his charitable works including serving as a bar associations foundation trustee and officer 2002-2004.
 
Mayne, Donna
Donna Mayne is a registered nurse who has worked in various areas of health care, including home health, long term care, emergency rooms and school nursing. She has been in the nursing profession for the past thirty years. She has taught nursing to students preparing to be registered nurses, as well as students preparing to be certified nursing assistants. She has a graduate degree in school psychology with advanced training in learning styles of the adult learner. Donna's various experiences have been helpful in working with CNA student's to prepare them to enter into the health care profession.
 
McElvany Coonce, Jane
Jane McElvany has been teaching in Arlington County for 28 years and has been with the Adult Education Program for 21 years. She was awarded her Bachelor's degree from High Point University and did her graduate work at the University of Virginia. As an artist, Jane works in pastel and in oil paints, but also does portrait sculptures and figures. Her works are held by the National Institute of Health and by private collectors. Her Key Bridge painting appeared on the cover of the Washington Post Magazine.
 
McCool, Charles
Charles McCool is a travel consultant focusing on teaching consumers how to save money, time, and stress. He is the author and publisher of Winning the Airfare Game. In search of travel deals and adventure, he has visited every state, two dozen countries, and five continents. Charles is also a stay-at-home dad to twins and an avid genealogist. He previously worked in the computer industry for 15 years.
 
McKee, Craig W.
Craig McKee has taught Life on the Precipice: Battling the Fear of Public Speaking for Arlington Adult Education since 1988. He is a veteran of thousands of platform hours of briefing and teaching experience earned over 30 years of national service, both with the Army and the U.S. Department of State. He has served in Europe, South America, and Africa, as well as posts throughout the U.S. Craig is a 1972 graduate of West Point, and has a graduate degree from the University of Southern California.
 
Mola, Roger
Roger Mola is a freelance writer and photographer whose first publishing experience was with Arlington area newspapers, including news and travel features for the Connection, Courier, Gazette, Journal, and Northern Virginia Sun. Roger now specializes in the aviation industry, and contributes to national magazines such as Air & Space Smithsonian. His business is based in Arlington but he is a frequent world traveler.
 
Montesa, Carmelita
Carmelita Montesa has been teaching cake baking and cake decoration classes for several years at Arlington Adult Education. She learned cake decorating at the Wilton School of Decorating and Confectionery Arts in Chicago as well as in other cake decorating schools throughout the US. As a member of the International Cake Exploration Society (ICES), she attends annual conventions and keeps well abreast of the latest techniques in the field. A native of the Philippines, Carmelita won several baking contests in her native county.
 
Morocho, Martha
Martha Morocho was born and raised in Lima, Peru. Mrs. Morocho taught in Lima for ten years before coming to the United States in 1969. She was awarded her master's degree in education from George Mason University in 1980 and has a Ph.D. in education from San Marcos National University in Peru. Martha has been teaching Spanish for Arlington Adult Education since 1981.
 
Morrissey, Marta
Marta M. Morrissey taught French for eleven years for the Fairfax County Public Schools and has been teaching the French Language for Arlington Adult Education since 1984. Italian by birth, she learned French as a young child and went on with her studies at a French Lycee, where she received her Baccalaureat.
 
Murphy, Diane G.
Diane Murphy is a licensed Real Estate Broker and owner of DGM Properties, Inc. She is a buyer broker specialist licensed in Virginia and Maryland. Diane has a Ph.D. in American Studies and has taught at all levels of education.

Nguyen, Thu Thi
Thu Nguyen is a native of Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. She holds a Bachelor of Foreign Language from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and is certified to teach Vietnamese as a foreign language. She received a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa and has extensive experience teaching Vietnamese to adults in both Viet Nam and the United States.

O'Day, Thomas
Thomas O'Day is a communications graduate from George Mason University. His experiences as a camera operator, director and editor are passed on to his many students. Tom has been a video instructor at the Arlington Career Center for over 12 years, where he instructs elementary, middle and high school students. He constantly strives to learn and then teach about the newest in video technology.

Amy Ordoveza has exhibited her paintings and drawings throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the New York Academy of Art and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Carolyn Page is an award winning writer and screenwriter. She is the founder/director of The Play's The Thing Theatre Co., which produces local playwrights in public places. She has taught in the Washington area for over 16 years.
 
Perry, Steve
Steve Perry has a Masters license in HVAC, Electrical and Gas fitting in multiple jurisdictions. He has worked in these areas for more than 24 years. He has experienced running his own multi-million dollar company to operating a 50 million dollar roll up organization. He is extremely well versed in operations segment as well as the service sector. Reardon, Pamela L.
Pamela Reardon has over eight years of professional recruiting experience as well as a background in accounting. Through extensive employment consulting and recruiting experience, Pamela has gained significant insight into employment and recruiting. She shares this knowledge through her professional activities, as well as through her volunteer work, which includes hosting several radio shows focused on employment issues, and through teaching adult education courses regarding job searching and employment. She is also in the process of publishing her first book, "Headhunter Hints: A Recruiter's Job Searching Secrets."
 
Robertson, Bruce
Bruce Robertson has been teaching for Arlington Adult Education since 2002 and is always thinking of new and
interesting classes to offer our students.  In fact he has taught seven different courses during his tenure with Arlington Adult and Community
Education.  During the day, he works as a Human Resources Manager for a large technology company.  In his job he is always working with managers
and employees who struggle in their communication with each other. Because of this experience, he teaches a class with Arlington Adult Education called "Communication and Conflict Management." Another class Bruce teaches is called, "Finding Amazing Travel Bargains On-line."  He has traveled to all 50 US States and 35 foreign countries for a very low cost and passes the information on how to save money on travel arrangements to his students. Bruce loves to teach adults and also offers
courses at Fairfax County Schools and Northern Virginia Community College.
 
Ruble, Adelaide
Adelaide Ruble holds a Master of Arts degree in Humanities with a concentration in Communications. For over twenty years, she has held professional positions in communications. As a former university instructor in public speaking, interpersonal communications, media literacy, she incorporated and taught power point and fundamental computer research skills. She is a former newspaper reporter and as a writer for the internal publication for the American Red Cross. Currently, she teaches English to immigrant women and is writing a book on Mothers and Daughters. Russell Lewin, Jean
Jean Russell is a native Arlingtonian and a published poet, story writer, and novelist. She is a member of the National League of American Penwoman, The Poetry Society of Virginia, and Poets Anonymous (a diverse local group which encourages people to express themselves through writing). Jean recently discovered a group of Poets Anonymous in England and is now in the process of editing a book of poems from members of both the American and United Kingdom groups. Jean will be participating in International Poets and Painters collaboration with artists in the United Kingdom this year.

Santos, Carmen
Carmen Santos has over twenty years working in education and administration. While at the Universidad del Tachira-Venezuela she was an English Professor, Coordinator of Education, Coordinator of Public Relations, and an Executive Officer. Carmen earned her masters in Education Administration from the University of New Mexico in 1992 and bachelors in Education from ULA Venezuela, 1980.
 
Sarmiento, Josefa
Josie Sarmiento was born in Venezuela where she attended college and earned her bachelors in Spanish. She taught at several language schools before coming to the United States. She has also received an associate degree from NOVA. Her teaching experience includes all levels and all ages. She has taught Spanish for the Oakridge Elementary School After School Enrichment program and was a regular substitute for the Spanish for Educators program. Josie has been teaching Spanish for Arlington Adult Education since 1993.
 
Schroerlucke, Sara
Sara Schroerlucke is a classical feng shui practitioner. She studied with Master Dr. Paul Yan, and Master Raymond Lo from Hong Kong. She plans to continue studying with Master Peter Leung, School of Chinese Metaphysics. Her western education includes a MS in Information Systems, and BS in Business Administration with minor in Human Resource Management.
 
Shultis, John
John Shultis served as a China specialist for the U.S. Army for thirteen years, and continues to do research and consulting on Chinese topics. He studied Chinese Mandarin at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York; the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California, the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan, the Ministry of Defense Chinese Language Institute, Hong Kong, and Beijing Teacher's College. He taught Chinese language, history, and culture at West Point form 1995-1998. He has traveled extensively in China, gaining an appreciation for Chinese culture, history, and society, which he tries to bring to every class session.
 
Sides, Thomas
Thomas Sides has graduate degrees in business economics and public administration, over twenty years of personal business experience, and over twelve years teaching small business courses and workshops throughout the Washington Metropolitan area. Tom seeks to provide his students with a useful blend of business theory and practical approaches to business success.
 
Simms, Fran Bell
Fran Bell Simms is an award winning artist who has been painting since childhood. Her formal training in art has come through classes in college where she served as a cartoonist for the newspaper. With a renewed focus in watercolor in the last decade, she continues as a student with Art League classes at the Torpedo Factory. She is a member of the Arlington Artists Alliance and shows regularly with them.
 
Singer, Fred
Fred Singer is a scientist and has taught at the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia. He has long been interested in the development of the alphabets and has mastered several, including Arabic and Korean.
 
Singer, Sarah
Sarah Singer, MA, is a free-lance writer and social worker who has written grants from government funders at the local, state and federal level, and from corporate, private and family foundations. She has also served as a grant reviewer for the State of Illinois and for the Northern Virginia Planning District Commission. Her interest is writing grants for social welfare projects.
 
Smith, Charles E.
Charles Smith is a native Arlingtonian employed as a Senior RF Systems Engineer. Charles has a love of calligraphy based on a lifelong interest in "how did they do that?" This curiosity has led him to approach calligraphy from an analytical perspective rather than exclusively as an art form. He believes that even though calligraphy is hard work, it should be fun and rewarding for the student.
 
Spring, Gregory
Gregory Spring is an Industrial Designer and accomplished cabinetmaker. He has instructed the year round Introductory and Advanced Cabinetmaking classes in Arlington County for over 19 years. In his approach to the teaching process, he provides a creative, hands-on experience offering students a satisfying lifelong hobby.
 
Stanley, Patricia
Patricia Stanley is a graduate of Temple University and is a resident of Arlington. She has over 23 years teaching experience, of which 18 has been with the Arlington Adult Education program. She has taught and served as Information Technology Department head at various propriety schools. She is dedicated to preparing, encouraging, and motivating students by keeping them up to date regarding the world of technology, as it relates to real life situations and in the workplace. She can type over 150 words per minute.
 
Starr, Liz
Liz Starr is a lifelong Arlingtonian (with stints growing up in Europe and Africa). She studied drawing and painting at the College of William & Mary, where she graduated with a B.A. in Art History. She has exhibited solo at Arlington's Central Library and was a winner of a design contest at Artisan Confections, a local chocolate shop. An avid photographer, Liz enjoys introducing students to art; she emphasizes learning to see, teaches fundamental skills, encourages exploration, and promotes a relaxed, enjoyable learning environment.
 
Stein, Arthur
Arthur Stein is a financial planner specializing in financial planning, investments and insurance. Consumers” Research Council of America named him one of America’s top financial planners. He is a Vice President at First Financial Group in Bethesda, MD. First Financial Group is a long-established, complete financial services firm - one of the largest independently owned firms of its kind in the mid-Atlantic region.
 
Prior to his career in financial planning, Mr. Stein ran the foreign aid program of the Government of Botswana, was the first full-time staff economist for the House Ways and Means Committee, taught economics at Murdoch University in Australia and ran his own business. His BA in Economics is from Tulane University and his MA in International Economics is from Johns Hopkins University.
 
Stiegler, Karen
Karen Stiegler holds a Diplome de Patisserie from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris . She spent three years there attending Sorbonne University and founding her own pastry instruction program. She has several published recipes and holds a Bachelors Degree in Journalism from Pepperdine University. She served as a personal chef to the British Ambassador in Oslo, Norway, where she also worked on recipe development, testing and a cookbook. Karen was Cake Decorating Instructor of the Year Worldwide Developmental Accounts in 2000 for Wilton Industries.
 
Besides teaching demonstration and hands-on courses, Karen has extensive experience in catering of American desserts and candies, and private culinary instruction. She has lived in France, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Africa and Asia, and travelled extensively throughout the world, sampling all types of cuisine. She is a member of Women Chefs and Restauranteurs as well as Les Dames d’Escoffier professional organizations. Karen recently completed a project working on recipes and menus for a new hotel venture in Beverly Hills, California, for Chef Jose Andres of Jaleo. Karen speaks French, Spanish, Norwegian and German. She has also worked for the National Restaurant Association.

Stoss, Robert
"Roberto" Stoss was born in a small Adriatic coastal town in central Italy. He moved to northern Virginia at the age of 6 weeks. Later, he lived in Naples, Italy for almost 5 years, beginning at the age of eight, and learned the meaning of "vedi Napoli e poi mori." He is a full-time ethics counselor and has taught Italian part-time for Arlington Adult Education for two years.

 
Swann, Stephen
Stephen Swann is a practicing attorney in Arlington. He retired from the United States Coast Guard in 1988 as a JAG attorney, and commenced a "lemon" law practice for consumers with defective motor vehicles. His firm also represents owners of boats, RV's, and other consumer products, as well as victims of auto dealer fraud and violations of Virginia and Federal odometer laws.

Timmons, Ann
Ann Timmons has performed in solo theatre works since 1979. Prior to a successful Off Broadway run of Off the Wall in 1992, Ms. Timmons toured to Lincoln Center and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where she was lauded by critics for her engaging and spirited performance. Ms. Timmons has also performed extensively in regional theatre, in productions ranging from the American premiere of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby at the Great Lakes Festival Theatre, to eight Gilbert & Sullivan operettas with The Ohio Light Opera Company, Six Degrees of Separation at The Rep Stage (Columbia, Maryland) and Holiday Memories with the Olney Theatre Company. On film she has worked with Oliver Stone (Wall Street), Rob Reiner (When Harry Met Sally), and Woody Allen (Alice). Television credits include Saturday Night Live, Another World, Law and Order, and Homicide.
 
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wellesley College, Ms.Timmons also trained at London's prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama, and holds an M.F.A. in Theatre from the University of Illinois. She has taught Theatre at American University, the University of the District of Columbia, and public and private schools throughout Northern Virginia. Formerly on the Speech Communications faculty of the City University of New York, Ms. Timmons currently coaches individuals and groups on public speaking skills, offering personal communications workshops for those who want to explore their unique vocal presence. As a visiting artist touring the country with Off the Wall, she has led a variety of acting, voice, and performance workshops.

 

Tsai, Sirina
Sirina Tsai studied in the professional cuisine program at Le Cordon Bleu, Paris. She enjoys creating new dishes and has published various newspaper articles with original recipes. Sirina has enjoyed home cooking for years and loves to make the Chinese dishes that she grew up eating. In her other life, she is an intellectual property lawyer.

 is from Japan and nationally licensed and board certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). He is working as a licensed acpuncturist at Advanced Health Center in Arlingon, VA.
 
Uravitch, Andrea
Andrea V. Uravitch, a graduate of the Cleveland Art Institute, is an award winning sculptor and photographer who has been exhibiting her work nationally in galleries and museums for over 25 years. She has been teaching children, teenagers and adults photography for 12 years in Arlington County.

Joyce Walters has over 20 years experience in Human Resources with both public and private sectors as well as in individual testing and career counseling. She has a BA in Psychology and an MA in Human Resources Management. Her areas of study include psychological tests and measurements, test construction, and interpretations. He has worked for the Adult Education program for over 13 years.
 
Welsh, David
David Welsh has been working in the TV production industry since 1985. Since 1992, he has been teaching TV production to adults at a media access facility, and to youth as a staff teacher at the Arlington Career Center. Dave has special expertise in field production and computer based editing and graphics.
 
Weiss. Deborah
Deborah Weiss has a BA in psychology/sociology from the University of Pennsylvania, and a JD from New York Law School. She has had 15 years of successful legal experience. She worked as an attorney for the NYC Office of the Corporation Counsel, representing criminal prosecutions on appeal, served as a counsel for the Committee on House Oversight in the US House of Representatives, and more recently worked as a Senior Fellow at the Center for Security Policy. Recently admitted to the United States Supreme Court, Deborah teaches: Free Speech and Politics; the Art of Networking; and Introduction to Criminal Law. These classes are not targeted to lawyers, but instead, all three courses are designed for the average citizen to become better informed while enjoying fun, lively conversation.
 
Wingfield, Terry
Terry's passion for photography started at home in her early childhood, brings to her teaching a variety of approaches to rendering the visual environment into a unique expression of individual perception. Terry has consulted in many different venues, encompassing the commercial and fine arts. Her expertise in a broad range of computer graphics programs, along with extensive experience in the traditional dark room, allows her an unlimited range of visual interpretation.
